Dr. Mariel R. Estrella, the ORES Director of Mariners' Polytechnic Colleges in Naga City won the 1st and 3rd prize in the joint Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights on November 27, 2015 at the Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF) in Guinobatan, Albay. This year's theme was "Building a strong and responsive science and technology in sustaining economic growth and promoting integration in ASEAN".
The two papers she presented were in the Research Category of all member agencies of BCIEERD. The two papers were: 1.) IDENTIFYING TOP TOURISM POTENTIALS OF METRO NAGA, PHILIPPINES: A LOCALIZED AND WHOLISTIC APPROACH and 2.) SAFE FOR TOURISTS: SUSTAINING TOURISM GROWTH AMIDST THREATS OF NATURAL DISASTERS, A CASE STUDY OF THE PROVINCE OF ALBAY, PHILIPPINES.
The opening program started at 9:00 a.m. Highlights were the speeches of the 3 Consortium Directors namely: Ms. Ruby Jane S. Gonzales for the Bicol Consortium for Industry and Emerging Energy Resources and Development (BCIEERD); Dr. Marissas Estrella for the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD); and Dr. Alma S. Banua for the Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD). Afterwhich, the 3 consortium had their own venue for presentation. The awarding and closing program was at 4:30 in the afternoon.
The papers were joint researches conducted by Dr. Mariel R. Estrella, Ms. Alaine Fornoles, and Dr. Marilissa J. Ampuan. These were also presented in the 18th International Conference of the Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) held in Taipei, Taiwan on June 26-29, 2012.
