Naga City - Four out of 276 members of the 2016 graduating batch has qualified for academic honors at the end of academic year 2015-2016 at the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges (MPC), this city.
After a series of deliberation and validation of supporting documents from the graduating students, the Academic Council announced two days before the Commencement Exercises the names of those who qualified, three (3) from the BS Customs Administration Department and one (1) from the Business Administration Department.
Commencement speaker Engr. Petercon A. Lugue along with the CEO/President Dr. Marilissa Ampuan conferred the Academic Distinction Award to Merryson P. Bongalbal (BSCA), Freddie Sta. Ines Ferreras (BSBA major in HRDM), Odessa N. Cariño (BSCA) and Kathleen T. Felices (BSCA). These students performed outstanding scholastic ratings throughout their 4 year college stay at the institution and have maintained a general weighted average of 1.40-1.49.
On the computation of the grades from S.Y 2013-2016 as tallied and verified at the Office of the Registrar; Bongalbal earned a GWA of 1.45, Ferreras got 1.47 while both Cariño and Felices posted a GWA of 1.48. As the top academic achiever of the graduating class, Bongalbal was the one who delivered the valedictory address.
She received the Presidential Award and gold medallion for Academic Excellence from Naga City Mayor John G. Bongat.
The gold medallion for Leadership Award from the City Mayor was awarded to Kathleen Felices. Meanwhile, BS HRM student Kevin Gail P. Toral received the Service Award.
The Academic Council has intensively reviewed the supporting papers and documents submitted before the panel members, tabulated the scores based on the implementing rules and guidelines in determining the non-academic awardees.
