Different voices, different ways and different wit showed off by 11 students coming from different Colleges and Universities all over the region in the Grand Finals of the first ever Regional Newscasting Competition sponsored by ABS-CBN Regional Network Group-Naga held at ALDP Mall Event Center last August 25, 2012.

Area Head Amy Villafuerte and News Chief Aireen Toral Jaymalin led the competition and hosted by ABS-CBN Bicol Anchors Jonathan Magistrado and Mylce Mella.

Three prominent media practitioners of ABS-CBN Manila invited as the judges of said event. They were Ryan Chua who started 19 year old in the broadcast, Jeff Canoy who was a bicolano reporter and George Cariño, a senior reporter of the big network. Contestants were judged based on the criteria given; 25% delivery, 25% pronunciation/diction, 12% voice quality, 13% over-all impact and 25% live report.

Roslyn Rasonable of USI ranked 3rd place with an average of 93%. Divine World College of Legaspi representative Joseph Advincula landed 2nd place with an average of 93.56%. University of Nueva Caceres representative Karen Kay Caranza won 1st place with an average of 95.11%.

Schoolmates and coaches of 11 schools (UNC, NCF, USI, MPC-NAGA, PSU, DWCL, UNEP, Mabini College, AU, USANT and BU) gave their all out support to their respective contestants. Jonna Ann Capua, AB Communication student who represented MPC-Naga still went home positively even she did not bring home the bacon.

MPC Taekwondo Team bagged 2 gold, 3 silver and bronze Medals in the 4th New Face Regional Taekwondo Championships last August 11-12, 2012 at the LCC Mall Event Center, Naga City.

The event was participated in by Ateneo de Naga University, Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, University of Nueva Caceres and different schools all over the region.

Twelve (12) players of the Taekwondo Team competed on the event. Auvrie Reganit who was awarded as the MVP in the competition and Roland Sarol grabbed Gold medal while April Mae Sabio, Don Anthony Saturios, and Lemuel Baris won Silver medal. Khairul Akran Bin Johari also got Bronze medal.

JCS holds Teambuilding anew

To develop friendship and unity among the students of the Communication Department, Junior Communicators’ Society (formerly Junior Broadcasters’League) spearheaded a teambuilding with the theme, “T.E.A.M: Together Everyone Achieves More” last August 4-5, 2012 at Rock Garden Resort, Carolina, Naga City.

Majority of the total number of Communication Students’ population participated in the overnight activity. Ms. Sanda Sta. Cruz, DepEd Employee and also a college instructor was invited as the guest speaker of the said activity. She succinctly talked about leadership and how to become a good leader.

She also motivated the participants to become a better and emulate individual.

Ms. Rita C. Labanon, an alumna and presently a news writer and program host of Bombo Radyo-Naga shared her experiences in the field of media and enlighten the participants with knowledge.

Group dynamics was also boost through different activities facilitated by the JCS officers.

With the support of the JCS adviser, Mr. Erwin L. Recto and the full cooperation of its officers, the event was successfully done. Everyone brought home the smile that symbolizes their unity and togetherness.
